Lindy Hop
This dance originated in Harlem, New York in the 1920's and 30's. It's a style of swing dance that borrows from the Charleston and Tap, which blended to create "Savoy Style". The Lindy Hop is considered the "granddaddy" of all swing dances.
The name is much of a debate, but the most popular story tells of one drunken dancer being asked what the name of the dance was by a reporter. The first thing he saw was a newspaper whose cover story was of the Lindbergh's trans-Atlantic flight entitled "Lindy Hops the Atlantic", so he said :Lindy Hop.
In Action
This is a scene from the 1941 movie Helzapoppin. I believe the dancers are Whitey's Lindy Hoppers
