The Dougie originated in Dallas, Texas and was named after 80s rapper Doug E. Fresh who performed similar moves. It first started to gain notoriety with the release of the song My Dougie by rapper Lil Wil in 2007. The dance really gained popularity with the release of the song Teach Me How To Dougie by Cali Swag District on 2009 which caused the dance to go viral.
